A great place to train!
We’re incedibly lucky to have brilliant facilities in L29!
Every room has a piano
4 rooms have drum kits (one of which has a top of the range electric silent-link-up for the whole band)
We have a gorgeous room with 2 beautiful grand pianos
2 more large rehearsal spaces, one of which has another lovely grand
6 practice rooms
A recording studio space
and… although it isn’t technically ‘ours’, we do a lot of rehearsals and events in the stunning ‘Great Hall’.
The name isn’t kiddding… it really is Great!

We keep prices below market average and do not offer part-year payments.
Band users:
- All members must purchase individual Practice Room Access
- Bands must have a majority of current UoR students or alumni (within 3 years)
Opening Hours
Monday – Sunday: 08:00–21:30
(Closed on University Closure Dates – see below)
Amplified sound:
- Allowed after 17:00 on weekdays, anytime during the weekend
- Before 17:00, use G04 silent practice room (booking required)
How to Get Access
- Purchase your individual practice room access for the 2025/26 academic year here
- New users must attend an induction session (please email music@reading.ac.uk to arrange this
New Community Members will be asked to pay a £10 deposit for an access card (refunded if the card is returned upon membership expiry) - All members of a band must have individual practice room access.
- Access is via University campus card or guest card
- After purchasing Practice Room Access, you’ll be added to our Microsoft Bookings system (allow up to 5 working days)

Facilities
- 6 general-purpose rooms – upright pianos, music stands, mirrors (max 3 users per room)
- Silent practice room (G04) – electronic drum kit and silent rehearsal set-up for amplified instruments before 17:00
- Drum kit room (G06) – acoustic drum kit
- Large studios:
- G01 – large studio, drum kit, 2 grand pianos
- G03 – medium studio, drum kit, 1 grand piano
Music practice rooms are available for:
- University of Reading students and staff
- Alumni (within 3 years of graduation)
- Community members (aged 18+)
Our facilities are for individual practice and UoR LIVE band rehearsals. Unfortunately, we cannot offer space for private tuition, community ensembles, or commercial activity.

Important Notes
- No food or drink (except water) in practice rooms
- Users must be over 18
- Please respect booking times and leave rooms clean and tidy
