World Fusion

This ensemble is currently at its early stages of development; the perfect time to join and be a part of our journey. Arguably the most collaborative ensemble within UoR Music, we aim to celebrate and perform music that wouldn’t necessarily receive the limelight it deserves in more traditional establishments. This might range from exploring folk songs to unique arrangements of old-school pop songs from different cultures. All instruments are welcome, especially those outside the standard classical or jazz orchestra line-up.

Rehearsals are fun and collaborative; I aim to get the most out of each musician, regardless of their current skill level. The ethos of the band is that we are one big family, so both musical and rehearsal commitment is required from the start. This mentality has proven time and again to foster not only musical development but also lifelong friendships, bonds and memories among band members.

There will be multiple opportunities for the band to perform throughout the year. This ranges from concerts in the Great Hall and wider community events. As it’s a developing ensemble, we will be looking to find the best venues and events to showcase our music.

All our ensembles expect commitment – both turning up for all (or almost all!) rehearsals, and turning up early enough to be ready to start on time (with music, pencil, blah blah blah!). Obviously we understand sometimes things happen, but it should be rare, and you should always get in touch with us, and explain, to let us know.
