Voices is our auditioned a cappella ensemble, made up of singers from the University Choir. New for 2026, it’s designed for students who love vocal music and want an extra challenge.

Expect beautiful chamber choir repertoire, close harmony singing, musical precision and the satisfaction of creating something really special together.

Yes, it's our only fully auditioned ensemble. It's also a requirement to be a member of the University Choir.

About Voices

Voices’ repertoire is really varied, but it focuses more on a capella and fun challenges. It’s all about tight skillful, small ensemble singing. Whether that’s jazz, close harmony, polyphony, or gorgeous contemporary Whitecre-like soundscaping.

Come along to the open weeks at the start of semesters to find out!
The answer though is: Fun and challenge – yin and yang, perfectly balanced!

Voices is only starting this year, but it will get lots of good performance opportunities.

As a flagship ensemble and our only fully auditioned one, the expectations for Uni Choir are high. But all our ensembles expect commitment – both turning up for all (or almost all!) rehearsals, and turning up early enough to be ready to start on time (with music, pencil, blah blah blah!). Obviously we understand sometimes things happen, but it should be rare, and you should always get in touch with us, and explain to let us know.
